How Are Pulp Bedpans Made?

Pulp bedpans are made using pulp molding technology, including pulping, forming, drying, and hot pressing.

1. Pulping
   Waste paper, paper scraps, or wood pulp are mixed with water and crushed in a pulper to form a uniform pulp suspension (0.8%–1.2% concentration). Impurities are removed to ensure fine pulp for molding.
2. Forming
   Molds are dipped into the pulp tank. A vacuum pulls the pulp fibers evenly onto the mold surface, forming a wet bedpan shape. Tiny holes in the mold help remove excess water for uniform thickness.
3. Demolding and Transfer
   After forming, the vacuum stops, and the wet bedpan is removed from the mold using air or mechanical tools, then moved to the drying system.
4. Drying
   Wet bedpans (60–70% water) are dried in hot air circulation or mesh-belt dryers until moisture drops to 10–12%, fixing the shape.
5. Hot Pressing
   Dried bedpans are hot-pressed at 180–250 °C to increase strength and toughness, smooth the surface, and improve leak resistance and heat tolerance.
